1Mbps RS232 link, 3V to 5.5V rail
The MAX3227CAE+ is a single-driver, single-receiver RS232 transceiver rated for 1Mbps data rate — fast enough for most point-to-point serial debug or peripheral links where 115.2 kbps is the legacy floor and 921.6 kbps is the practical ceiling on legacy UARTs. 500 mV of receiver hysteresis filters out noise on long cable runs where ground potential difference injects common-mode transients into the receive line.
Surface-mount 16-SSOP (5.30 mm width) — the 0.65 mm pitch is routable on a two-layer board with basic trace/space rules, but a ground plane under the package reduces radiated emissions on the 1Mbps edge rate. Commercial temperature range (0°C to 70°C) means this variant is intended for indoor, controlled-environment equipment — not for the -40°C industrial or automotive bench. ROHS3 compliant per — no exemptions on lead content, so it clears EU RoHS without a certificate-of-non-use for the last exemption categories.
Active — no last-time-buy pressure
Analog Devices lists the MAX3227CAE+ as Active. Supplied in tube; the 16-SSOP package is a standard Analog Devices footprint shared with other MAX322x family members, so a single tape-and-reel change on the pick-and-place feeder covers multiple BOM lines.
