Receiver hysteresis and noise margin
500 mV of receiver hysteresis filters out line noise on long RS232 runs — a 300 mV noise spike on the cable won't toggle the output. This matters in electrically noisy environments like motor-drive cabinets or industrial control panels where the serial cable shares a tray with power conductors.
SSOP-20 footprint and board integration
The 1.75 mm seated height clears low-profile enclosures. No exposed pad — the thermal path is through the leads, so the ambient temperature ceiling is the 70 °C commercial limit.
