Product details

20-SSOP RS-232 transceiver with 3 drivers, 5 receivers

The MAX3185EAP+ is a full-duplex RS-232 transceiver from Analog Devices, packing three drivers and five receivers into a 20-SSOP package (0.209-inch wide, 5.30 mm body). The 3/5 driver/receiver count is unusual — most RS-232 transceivers in this package class offer 2/2 or 3/3. The extra receivers let you monitor more handshake lines (CTS, DSR, RI, DCD) without adding a second device.

Temperature grade and supply rail

The 4.5 V minimum supply means it runs from a 5 V nominal rail with 10 % tolerance — a 5 V ±5 % supply is fine, but a 3.3 V-only system needs a boost converter or a different transceiver.
