Thermocouple front-end in an SOIC-8
The Analog Devices MAX31855KASA+T is a thermocouple-to-digital converter that digitises the signal from a K-type (or other) thermocouple junction directly, outputting a digital word over a serial interface. It handles the cold-junction compensation and linearisation internally, so the host MCU sees a temperature reading without an analogue front-end or lookup table. The 900 µA supply current keeps the thermal budget low in multi-channel panels or battery-backed loggers.
Temperature range and environment
Rated for -40°C to 125°C operation.
Package and footprint
Housed in an 8-SOIC package (0.154" body width, 3.90 mm), it fits a standard SOIC-8 land pattern. The surface-mount profile is compatible with reflow assembly; no special pad geometry or thermal-relief cutouts are required for this 900 µA part. Tape & Reel (TR) and Cut Tape (CT) options are listed, so the same reel feeds both prototype pick-and-place and production runs.
Lifecycle and supply posture
Marked as Active and ROHS3 compliant, so no end-of-life notice is pending from the manufacturer. For a BOM freeze, this is a low-risk line item — no LTB window to track, no substitute qualification to plan.
