The MAX3160EAP+T: Rated for 10 Mbps, the data-rate ceiling covers the common RS485 bus speeds for factory-floor fieldbus and building automation backbones; the 500 mV receiver hysteresis filters out noise on long cable runs where ground-potential differences eat into the differential signal margin.
Operating from 3V to 5.5V, the part runs off a 3.3V rail (common on modern MCU boards) or a legacy 5V bus — no level translator needed between the transceiver and the UART supply domain. Two drivers and two receivers (2/2) give a full-duplex RS422/RS485 pair plus one spare channel for a handshake line or a second bus — the pinout maps directly to a standard UART with RTS/CTS on the extra driver/receiver.
