Quad SPST in a 16-TSSOP — what the package means for your board
The MAX314EUE+T packs four independent SPST switches — each configurable as normally-open or normally-closed — into a 16-TSSOP package measuring 0.173 inches wide. No hot-air station required for a field swap. The 1:1 multiplexer/demultiplexer circuit per channel means each switch is a simple pass gate — route a signal in or out, no crosspoint matrix logic. For a field repair, that is one less thing to trace: each channel is independent, so a bad channel does not take down the others.
10 Ω on-resistance and what it buys you
With 10 Ω max on-resistance, this switch adds less than 0.5 % error to a 2 kΩ source impedance — your signal sees the switch as a low-value resistor, not a voltage divider. The 300 mΩ channel-to-channel matching means all four paths track within a tight band, which matters when you are switching matched gain stages or balanced audio. The 225 ns turn-on and 185 ns turn-off times put the switching speed well above audio frequencies — you can crossfade or multiplex audio channels without audible zipper noise. For data signals, the 15 pF channel capacitance sets the bandwidth ceiling: into a 10 kΩ load, the -3 dB point lands around 1 MHz, so keep your signal edges slower than that or buffer the output. Crosstalk is rated at -85 dB at 1 MHz — that means less than 0.006 % of the signal on one channel leaks into an adjacent off channel. In a multiplexed data acquisition system, that keeps channel-to-channel bleed below the noise floor of a 12-bit ADC.
Supply flexibility — single or dual rails
Run it from a single supply anywhere from 4.5 V to 30 V, or split rails from ±4.5 V to ±20 V. That covers the common analog rails: ±5 V, ±12 V, ±15 V, or a single 5 V, 12 V, or 24 V supply. The 20 pC charge injection means every time the switch toggles, a small charge glitch couples onto the signal path — at ±15 V that is about 1.3 mV into a 10 kΩ load, which a sample-and-hold might notice but an audio line-level signal will not. Leakage current is 500 pA max when the switch is off — negligible for most circuits. At 85 °C the leakage roughly doubles every 10 °C, so budget about 8 nA at the top end of the industrial temperature range. Still fine for a 10 kΩ source, but a 10 MΩ piezoelectric sensor front-end will see the offset.
