RS422/RS485 quad receiver for 3.3V backplanes
The MAX3096CEE+ is a quad RS422/RS485 line receiver from Analog Devices (formerly Maxim Integrated) in a 16-QSOP package. It handles four differential inputs and presents a single-ended TTL/CMOS output per channel, operating from a 3V to 3.6V supply rail. Rated for 10Mbps data rate with 45mV of hysteresis on the differential inputs, this receiver cleans up noisy bus signals common in factory-floor RS485 drops. The commercial temperature range (0°C to 70°C) suits it for indoor control cabinets, telecom racks, and test equipment — not outdoor or under-hood automotive environments.
Supply and signal compatibility
The 3V to 3.6V supply range maps directly to a 3.3V logic rail. No level translator needed when feeding a 3.3V UART or FPGA bank. The 45mV hysteresis prevents chatter on idle or lightly-loaded RS485 buses. Four receivers, zero drivers — this is a pure receive-side part. Pair it with a separate RS485 transceiver or driver IC for bidirectional half-duplex links.
