500kbps and half-duplex — what it means on the bus
500kbps is the maximum data rate; the part will run slower without issue. Half-duplex means the driver and receiver share the same pair of wires — the bus must be turned around (TX enable toggled) between transmit and receive. That makes it a natural fit for multi-drop polling networks where only one node talks at a time. The 100 mV receiver hysteresis gives noise immunity on long cable runs, reducing false triggers from reflections or coupled interference.
