Half-duplex RS-485 transceiver in a socketable DIP
The MAX3082EPA+ is a half-duplex transceiver supporting both RS-485 and RS-422 protocols, with one driver and one receiver on-chip. Data rate is rated at 115 kbps, which suits moderate-speed industrial buses where signal integrity over longer cable runs matters more than raw throughput. Supply range is 4.75V to 5.25V — a standard 5V rail, no external regulator needed if the board already carries 5V. Receiver hysteresis is 100 mV, giving noise immunity on the bus without external filtering.
Through-hole DIP — field-swappable without a hot-air station
Package is 8-DIP (0.300-inch, 7.62 mm body) with the supplier device package listed as 8-PDIP. That means it fits a standard 0.300-inch-wide DIP socket — you can swap it on site with a puller and a thumb, no rework station needed. Mounting is through-hole, which is less dense than SMT but gives a mechanically robust joint for screw-terminal or barrier-strip boards where vibration is a concern.
Active production — no obsolescence watch needed
Lifecycle status is Active, so Analog Devices is still manufacturing this part. ROHS3 compliant, which covers the current EU RoHS exemption list.
