115 kbps full-duplex RS-485 transceiver
The MAX3080CSD+T from Analog Devices is a single RS-485/RS-422 transceiver in a 14-SOIC package, rated for 115 kbps data rate with full-duplex communication. It integrates one driver and one receiver on a single 4.75-5.25V supply rail.
Data rate and bus topology
The 115 kbps data rate suits industrial fieldbus links running Modbus RTU, PROFIBUS DP at the lower baud rate, or simple point-to-point RS-422 links over cable runs up to 1200 metres — the slew-limited edge keeps reflections manageable on un-terminated stubs. Full-duplex operation means the driver and receiver are active simultaneously, so the bus needs two twisted pairs (one for transmit, one for receive) and a master that never releases the line — this is the topology for dedicated sensor-to-controller links, not multi-drop polled networks. Receiver hysteresis is 100 mV, which suppresses noise on the differential bus when the input signal is near the threshold — a practical margin for industrial environments where ground potential differences between nodes can reach several volts.
Supply tolerance and temperature grade
The 4.75-5.25V supply range covers a nominal 5V rail with ±5% tolerance — a standard industrial 5V supply or a regulated 5V from a DC-DC converter keeps the transceiver inside its operating window without an extra LDO. For extended or outdoor deployment a wider-temperature variant would be needed.
The supplier device package is 14-SOIC, matching the body width and pin spacing of the SOIC-14 industry standard. CT suits prototype or low-volume builds.
