16:1 analog multiplexer for multi-channel data acquisition
The MAX306EPI+ from Analog Devices is a single 16:1 analog multiplexer that routes one of sixteen analog inputs to a common output, built for precision signal-switching in data-acquisition, ATE, and instrumentation systems. On-resistance is 100 Ohm max with 1.5 Ohm channel-to-channel matching, so the signal attenuation stays uniform across all sixteen channels — no gain calibration per channel needed in the firmware. Switching completes in 200 ns on and 150 ns off, fast enough to scan sixteen thermocouple channels at 50 kHz without missing a sample window.
Signal integrity and isolation
Crosstalk is -92 dB at 100 kHz, meaning a 5 V swing on one channel couples less than 200 µV into an adjacent off-channel — clean enough for 16-bit systems without a separate guard trace. Charge injection is 2 pC typical, which translates to about 200 µV of glitch on a 10 nF sampling cap — negligible for most ADC front-ends but worth noting if the downstream converter has a fast track-and-hold. Off-channel leakage is 500 pA max, so a 10 MOhm source impedance drops only 5 mV of error — the multiplexer does not dominate the DC accuracy budget. Channel capacitance is 8 pF on the source side and 130 pF on the drain side — the larger drain capacitance limits the settling time when switching between channels at high impedance.
