What this CAN transceiver brings to the bus
The MAX3053ESA+T from Maxim Integrated is a full-duplex CANbus transceiver that handles 2 Mbps data rate — fast enough for high-throughput industrial and automotive control networks. It integrates one driver and one receiver in an 8-SOIC package, running from a 4.5 V to 5.5 V supply rail. The receiver includes 150 mV of hysteresis to clean up noisy bus signals. Rated for the -40°C to 85°C industrial temperature range, it fits factory automation, motor drives, and outdoor telecom gear where the cabinet gets warm but stays below the under-hood automotive threshold.
2 Mbps — what it means for the bus timing
At 2 Mbps the bit time is 500 ns. That leaves about 250 ns for the loop delay (transceiver + cable + controller) after subtracting the sample point. The 150 mV hysteresis helps maintain a clean differential signal on long stubs or in electrically noisy environments like a motor drive cabinet. If your CAN controller supports the faster data phase in CAN FD, this transceiver can handle the arbitration phase at 1 Mbps and the data phase at 2 Mbps without bit errors — but check that the controller's CAN FD implementation matches the transceiver's timing budget.
Active lifecycle — no LTB risk for new builds
That means you can qualify it into a new BOM without worrying about a sudden EOL. ROHS3 compliant, so it meets the latest European restriction directives.
