RS232 port density in a PLCC footprint
The MAX248EQH+D is an 8-driver, 8-receiver RS232 transceiver in a 44-lead PLCC package — a single IC handles a full 8-port serial interface, saving board area compared to stacking multiple smaller transceivers. Full-duplex operation at 120 Kbps covers standard RS232 signalling for legacy industrial equipment, point-of-sale terminals, and multi-port serial concentrators where the protocol's noise margin is valued over raw speed.
Supply and temperature envelope
Receiver hysteresis of 500 mV provides noise rejection on long cable runs — the threshold spread prevents chatter on a 15-metre RS232 link in an electrically noisy environment.
Housed in a 44-PLCC (J-Lead) with a 16.59 mm x 16.59 mm body — the J-lead footprint is a through-hole-soldered surface-mount package that requires a reflow profile compatible with the PLCC land pattern, not a standard gull-wing. Supplied in tube, the PLCC package is also available in tape-and-reel for automated pick-and-place; the tube quantity is typically 27 or 30 pieces per tube depending on the supplier's packing standard.
ROHS3 compliant — the PLCC package uses matte-tin lead finish; no exemption claim for lead in solder, so it passes the EU RoHS directive without restriction.
