RS-232 driver, 4-channel, 120 kbps
The MAX234EWE+ is a quad RS-232 line driver from Analog Devices, delivering four driver outputs with no on-chip receivers — a pure transmit-side interface for systems where the receive path is handled separately. Rated for 120 kbps data rate, it covers the standard RS-232 band for legacy serial links, industrial terminal communication, and point-of-sale equipment where 115.2 kbps is the common ceiling.
Supplied in tube packaging, it suits hand-assembly or low-volume reflow; the surface-mount body requires a typical reflow profile for 1.27 mm pitch SOIC, with no exposed pad or special thermal management.
The RS-232 protocol itself is single-ended and ground-referenced; for runs beyond a few metres or noisy environments, the driver's output swing and slew rate are designed to meet the EIA-232 standard at 120 kbps over 15 m of cable.
Fully RoHS3 compliant (2011/65/EU + 2015/863), with no exemptions for lead or restricted substances. The part is also REACH and WEEE compliant per Analog Devices standard declarations.
