The MAX231EPD+ is a full-duplex RS232 transceiver from Analog Devices, integrating two drivers and two receivers in a single 14-pin DIP package. Data rate is specified at 120Kbps, suitable for legacy serial communication links in industrial control, instrumentation, and point-of-sale terminals where the RS232 protocol still dominates the physical layer.

Operates from a single 5V supply or a split supply of 7.5V to 13.2V, giving flexibility in systems with existing ±12V rails or a regulated 5V bus.

Housed in a 14-DIP (0.300", 7.62mm) through-hole package with a 14-PDIP supplier device code — the wide body pitch simplifies hand-assembly and rework in prototype or low-volume production runs. Receiver hysteresis of 500 mV provides noise immunity on the RS232 bus, reducing false triggering on long cable runs in electrically noisy factory environments.
