RS-232 transceiver for industrial serial links
The Maxim Integrated MAX222EWN+ is a full-duplex RS-232 transceiver packing two drivers and two receivers in an 18-SOIC package. It handles point-to-point or multi-drop serial communication at data rates up to 250 kbps over the standard 4.5 V to 5.5 V supply rail. The 500 mV of receiver hysteresis filters line noise on longer cable runs, which matters when the serial link leaves the backplane and enters a factory-floor harness.
