Reinforced 2-channel isolator for high-speed industrial buses
The Maxim Integrated MAX22246CAWA+ is a reinforced, 2-channel digital isolator using capacitive coupling technology. It supports a 200 Mbps data rate with 5000 Vrms isolation, making it suited for isolating CAN, RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 interfaces in industrial automation, motor drives, and medical equipment. The wide supply range of 1.71 V to 5.5 V allows direct interface with both 1.8 V and 5 V logic domains without a separate level shifter.
Propagation delay and pulse-width distortion
Maximum propagation delay is 9.5 ns (tpLH) and 9.9 ns (tpHL), with pulse-width distortion limited to 2 ns. These timing specs keep the signal edge integrity tight enough for 200 Mbps NRZ data without accumulating jitter across the isolation barrier. Rise and fall times are 0.8 ns and 1 ns typical, so the output edges are clean enough to drive a standard CMOS or TTL input without extra buffering.
Common-mode transient immunity for noisy environments
Minimum common-mode transient immunity is 50 kV/µs (typical). That figure matters when the isolator bridges a motor-drive power stage or a switched-mode supply where fast voltage transients across the barrier could otherwise corrupt the data stream.
Package and temperature grade
Housed in a wide-body 8-SOIC (0.295", 7.50 mm width) package, surface-mount. The channels are unidirectional with a 1/1 input-to-output split, so two signal lines can cross the barrier in opposite directions.
Lifecycle and supply posture
For production BOMs requiring reinforced isolation at 200 Mbps, this part is specified into new designs without LTB risk.
