The MAX20751EKX+T from Analog Devices is an active-production 4-phase step-down buck controller with a PMBus serial interface.
4-phase architecture and switching range
Four interleaved output phases spread the inductor current ripple and reduce the per-phase capacitor ripple current — this shrinks the output filter footprint compared to a single-phase controller at the same total current. The switching frequency is programmable from 300 kHz to 800 kHz; lower frequencies cut switching losses in the external FETs, higher frequencies shrink magnetics. The controller outputs a PWM signal and does not integrate synchronous rectifiers — the designer adds external low-side FETs or Schottky diodes. Control features include phase management, a power-good flag, and ramp compensation.
PMBus telemetry and supply rail
The PMBus interface allows readback of output voltage, current, and temperature telemetry, plus margining and fault logging — useful for ATE or server-rack power sequencers that need closed-loop monitoring. Packaged in a 36-VFQFN with exposed pad, 6x6 mm body. The exposed paddle must be soldered to a PCB thermal land with vias to the ground plane — the datasheet's recommended footprint and stencil aperture are the starting point for the layout review.
