RS-232 link in a 16-SOIC footprint
The MAX202ECWE+T: Housed in a 16-SOIC wide-body package (0.295", 7.50mm width), it is a surface-mount part suited for PCB designs where board space is at a premium but a reliable RS-232 port is needed.
Package and mounting
At 120 kbps, the part handles legacy RS-232 signalling for industrial terminals, point-of-sale equipment, and instrumentation — enough for most asynchronous serial links, though not for high-speed protocols like RS-485 at megabit rates. Receiver hysteresis of 500 mV provides noise immunity on the incoming line, reducing false triggering on long cable runs or in electrically noisy environments.
Production status and sourcing posture
It is ROHS3 compliant, so it meets the latest EU restriction on hazardous substances — no exemption issues for new designs shipping into regulated markets. Available in Tape & Reel (TR) and Cut Tape (CT) packaging options for both volume assembly and prototype or repair quantities.
