12 A Buck in a 3.5x4 mm Wettable-Flank QFN
The MAX20011DAFOA/VY+ is an Analog Devices Automotive-series step-down (buck) regulator delivering up to 12 A from a 3 V to 5.5 V input rail. Its adjustable output spans 0.5 V to 1.275 V, making it a direct-fit power supply for low-voltage core rails in automotive ECUs, ADAS processors, or infotainment SoCs that need a clean, regulated 12 A bus from a 5 V or battery-derived input.
Switching Frequency and Synchronous Rectification
The part operates at either 1.1 MHz or 2.2 MHz switching frequency (selectable), with built-in synchronous rectification. The 2.2 MHz option keeps the inductor and output capacitor small — useful when board space is tight — but the higher switching loss means the 1.1 MHz setting is better for efficiency at heavier loads. The synchronous rectifier eliminates the external Schottky diode; the low-side FET's Rds(on) sets the light-load efficiency floor. The 17-FC2QFN (3.5x4 mm) package with wettable flank terminals supports automated optical inspection (AOI) of the solder joints — a requirement for automotive production lines. The surface-mount, wettable-flank mounting type means the side pads are plated so the solder fillet climbs the edge of the package, visible to a camera.
