12-bit, 100k DAS with integrated mux — one chip replaces a multi-ADC front end
The MAX197BCWI+ is a complete 12-bit Data Acquisition System (DAS) that integrates an 8-channel multiplexer, track/hold, successive-approximation ADC, and parallel interface in a single 28-SOIC package. Sampling at 100k samples per second, it digitizes up to eight analog inputs through one conversion engine — eliminating the per-channel ADC cost and board area of a discrete multi-ADC front end.
Single 5V supply — no bipolar rails needed on the board
The DAS operates from a single 4.75V to 5.25V supply rail, so the board only needs one regulated 5V bus for the analog section. The single-supply architecture eliminates the -5V or ±15V rails that older data-acquisition parts require, simplifying the power tree and reducing the component count on the PCB.
Commercial temperature grade — indoor instrumentation and test equipment
It is not qualified for extended industrial (-40°C to +85°C) or automotive temperature ranges; designs exposed to outdoor or under-hood conditions need a different temperature-grade variant.
Parallel interface — direct bus connection to MCU or FPGA
The parallel data interface connects directly to an MCU or FPGA memory bus without a serial protocol layer — the host reads the conversion result in one bus cycle. This suits systems where deterministic read latency matters, such as real-time control loops or high-speed data logging, where SPI or I²C overhead would add jitter.
