12-bit, 8-channel DAS with serial interface
The Maxim Integrated MAX186DCWP+ is a complete Data Acquisition System (DAS) integrating an 8-channel analog multiplexer, a 12-bit successive-approximation ADC, and a serial interface in a single 20-SOIC package. It samples at 133k samples per second and communicates over a standard SPI/QSPI/MICROWIRE bus, making it a straightforward drop-in for multi-channel analog measurement in embedded systems.
Dual ±5V supply — plan the rails
This part requires a dual ±5V supply, which is a key BOM consideration. Unlike single-supply ADCs that simplify the power tree, the MAX186DCWP+ needs both a positive and negative rail. That ±5V supply is typical for industrial signal chains that handle bipolar inputs, but it adds a charge-pump or a second regulator if your board only carries a single 5V rail. Plan for that extra rail early in the power budget.
Commercial temperature range — indoor use only
Rated for 0°C to 70°C, this is a commercial-temperature-grade device.
Active lifecycle — no LTB pressure
The MAX186DCWP+ carries an Active product status with ROHS3 compliance. For a storeroom or MRO buyer, this means you can still stock it without worrying about an imminent EOL. That said, Maxim (now part of Analog Devices) has been migrating older DAS parts to newer packages and processes, so keep an eye on PCNs if you are qualifying a long-life product.
20-SOIC wide-body — standard footprint
The 20-SOIC package with 0.295-inch body width (7.50 mm) is a common wide-body SOIC. It is a surface-mount part shipped in Tube. The footprint is well-supported in layout libraries, and the wide pitch makes hand-solder rework or inspection straightforward. No fine-pitch or BGA complexity here.
