3A point-of-load buck for 3V to 5.5V rails
The MAX1831EEE+ is a 3A step-down buck regulator from Analog Devices, switching at 1 MHz and accepting a 3V to 5.5V input range.
Output voltage flexibility and synchronous rectification
Output is adjustable from 1.1V up to 5.5V, with factory-preset options at 1.5V, 2.5V, and 3.3V available through the same pinout. The adjustable version uses a resistor divider on the FB pin; the fixed versions eliminate two resistors from the BOM. The integrated synchronous rectifier replaces the external Schottky diode found in older buck designs. At 3A output and 3.3V in to 1.8V out, the efficiency gain over a diode-based converter is roughly 3-5% — enough to drop the junction temperature by 8-10°C in a sealed enclosure.
Package, temperature grade, and compliance
The surface-mount package suits standard reflow profiles with a 260°C peak. ROHS3 compliant per.
