Product details

500 mA LDO with low dropout — sizing the headroom

The MAX1792EUA25+ is a positive-output LDO regulator delivering 500 mA continuous current. Output is adjustable from a 1.25 V reference, with a fixed 2.5 V option selected by tying the sense pin.

Thermal and package — what the exposed pad means for layout

Housed in the 8-uMAX-EP / 8-uSOP-EP (3.00 mm width, 0.118" pitch), the exposed pad under the package is the primary thermal path. Solder the paddle to a copper pour on the PCB; the datasheet's thermal resistance figures assume at least 1 in² of 2-oz copper on the bottom layer for 500 mA continuous operation at 125 °C junction. Operating temperature spans -40 °C to 125 °C, covering automotive under-hood and industrial enclosure environments. The Enable and Reset control pins allow sequencing — pull EN low to shut down the output and reduce quiescent current to near zero.

Protection and quiescent draw

Built-in over-current and over-temperature protection prevent damage under fault conditions. The 250 µA quiescent current (Iq) is the regulator's own draw — in a battery-powered system that spends most of its time in sleep, this Iq drains the cell continuously unless the Enable pin gates the regulator off.
