Lead-acid charge controller with full fault protection
The MAX17702ATG+ is a single-cell lead-acid battery charge controller from Analog Devices, designed for constant-current charging with programmable current, timer, and voltage setpoints. It accepts a battery pack voltage from 1.25V to 21.9V, covering 1 to 4 series lead-acid cells (2V, 4V, 6V, 8V, or 12V nominal packs). The 60V maximum supply voltage gives headroom for 12V and 24V automotive systems, surviving load-dump transients without external clamping. Integrated fault protection covers overcurrent, overtemperature, overvoltage, and short-circuit conditions — the full safety set for an unattended charging station.
Temperature grade and package fit
The -40°C to +125°C operating temperature range qualifies the part for under-hood automotive or outdoor enclosure deployment without derating. Housed in a 24-WFQFN exposed pad package measuring 4x4mm, the thermal pad must be soldered to a copper pour on the PCB for heat sinking — the supplier device package is 24-TQFN-EP. Surface-mount mounting type requires a standard reflow soldering profile; the exposed pad is the primary thermal path to the board.
