The MAX17612CATB+ is a protection IC that monitors the input rail and disconnects the load when voltage exceeds or drops below a threshold — think of it as a smart fuse that resets itself. Its 4.5V to 60V supply range covers everything from a 12V automotive battery (including cold-crank dips to 4.5V) to a 48V industrial bus, without needing an external pre-regulator. Drawing only 890µA quiescent current, it can sit on an always-on supply line without draining the battery in a parked vehicle or a remote sensor node. The -40°C to 125°C operating temperature range means it works under the hood or on a rooftop solar combiner box.
