Wide-input supply-rail guard
The MAX17612CATB+ is a protection IC that monitors the input rail and disconnects the load when voltage exceeds or drops below a threshold — think of it as a smart fuse that resets itself. Its 4.5V to 60V supply range covers everything from a 12V automotive battery (including cold-crank dips to 4.5V) to a 48V industrial bus, without needing an external pre-regulator. Drawing only 890µA quiescent current, it can sit on an always-on supply line without draining the battery in a parked vehicle or a remote sensor node. The -40°C to 125°C operating temperature range means it works under the hood or on a rooftop solar combiner box.
Housed in a 10-TDFN (3x3 mm) with an exposed pad, the part needs a thermal land on the PCB to pull heat out of the die. The pad is the main thermal path — without a via array under it, the junction temperature rises faster than the 125°C limit allows at high line voltage. Surface-mount only — no socket, so a rework station is the field-repair tool. The 3x3 mm footprint is small enough to fit in a cramped control board but large enough that a technician with tweezers and a hot-air pencil can swap it without a stencil.
Lifecycle and compliance
ROHS3 compliant, so it clears EU and most global regulatory gates without an exemption certificate. No UL or IEC listing appears in the record — the buyer should confirm any system-level safety certification against the end-equipment standard.
