Forward controller for isolated supplies
The MAX17598ATE+T is a current-mode PWM controller from Analog Devices designed for forward-converter topologies. It operates from an 8V to 29V supply rail and drives an external MOSFET pair — no internal switches, so the power stage is your own design. Switching frequency is programmable from 100kHz to 1MHz, letting you balance transformer size against switching losses. The 16-TQFN (3x3 mm) package with exposed pad keeps the controller compact on the board, and the -40°C to 150°C junction temperature range covers industrial enclosures and under-hood automotive environments.
What the ratings mean for your BOM
The 8V to 29V Vcc/Vdd range sets the bias rail for the controller itself — not the output voltage. Your design still needs a separate bias winding or auxiliary supply that stays within that window. The 72.5% maximum duty cycle is typical for forward converters; it leaves the reset interval for the transformer core. Fault protection includes current limiting and over-voltage on the output side, which saves adding a separate supervisor IC. Control features — frequency control, soft start, and sync — let you align switching with other converters in a multi-rail system or ramp the output cleanly at power-up.
Lifecycle and sourcing posture
This part carries an Active lifecycle status — no end-of-life notice, no last-time-buy clock ticking. It is ROHS3 compliant. For a BOM freeze or a production replenishment, there is no urgency to qualify a substitute.
