Package and board integration for compact supplies
Housed in a 16-WFQFN with exposed pad (3x3mm TQFN package), the MAX17498BATE+ is a surface-mount device. The output isolation is configurable as either isolated or non-isolated, so the same part serves a flyback converter with an optocoupler feedback loop or a simple boost regulator without isolation.
Control and protection for reliable offline supplies
Built-in control features include an enable pin, power-good indicator, and programmable soft-start. Fault protection covers current limiting and over-voltage — the current limit prevents the internal switch from exceeding its safe operating area during startup or overload, while the over-voltage protection clamps the output if the feedback loop opens. The 500kHz switching frequency keeps the transformer or inductor physically small — a 500kHz flyback magnetics design uses roughly half the core volume of a 100kHz design at the same power level.
