What this 1 MHz buck does on your board
The Maxim Integrated MAX1742EEE+ is a 1 MHz step-down (buck) switching regulator delivering up to 1A from a 3V to 5.5V input rail. Its 1 MHz switching frequency lets you use small inductors and ceramic output capacitors, shrinking the power stage footprint for space-constrained designs. The output is adjustable from 1.1V up to the input voltage, with fixed presets at 1.5V, 1.8V, and 2.5V available through pin-strapping. Synchronous rectification keeps efficiency up without an external Schottky diode.
Package and rework notes
Housed in a 16-pin SSOP (0.154" body width, 3.90 mm pitch) or the equivalent 16-QSOP supplier package, this is a fine-pitch but hand-reworkable part if you have a decent hot-air station. The 1.27 mm lead pitch on the SSOP gives you room to tack a probe or reflow with a fine tip.
Lifecycle and sourcing posture
The MAX1742EEE+ carries an Active lifecycle status with ROHS3 compliance.
