What this watchdog does on your board
The Maxim Integrated MAX16997AAUA+ is a single-channel watchdog supervisory circuit in an 8-uMAX/uSOP package. It monitors a microprocessor or SoC and asserts a reset if the system stops toggling its watchdog input within the programmed timeout window. The reset output is active low, open-drain, so it can be wire-ORed with other reset sources on the rail. The reset timeout and voltage threshold are both adjustable or selectable via external components, which gives you flexibility to match the supervisor to the processor's timing and supply tolerance without changing the PCB footprint.
Temperature range and where it fits
Rated for -40°C to 125°C ambient, this part is comfortable in engine bays, industrial enclosures, and outdoor telecom cabinets where the board sees thermal cycling. The 8-uMAX/uSOP package is a 3.00 mm wide MSOP footprint — small enough to tuck next to the processor without eating board space, but still hand-solderable for rework.
Lifecycle and sourcing reality
It is ROHS3 compliant, so it clears the REACH and RoHS gates for new designs.
