USB power switch with 60mOhm on-resistance
The MAX1693HEUB+ is a single-channel, high-side P-channel USB power switch from Analog Devices, designed for applications requiring a controlled power rail with fault protection. Its 60mOhm typical Rds(on) keeps conduction losses low — at the 700mA max output, the voltage drop across the switch is under 45mV, which matters for maintaining the 5V rail tolerance at the USB receptacle. The input voltage range spans 2.7V to 5.5V, covering single-cell Li-ion and standard 3.3V or 5V rails without needing an external supply rail for the switch gate drive.
Fault protection and status flag
Built-in fault protection includes fixed current limiting and over-temperature shutdown — the current limit clamps the output during a short, and the thermal protection cycles the switch off if the die temperature exceeds the threshold. A status flag output (open-drain, active-low) asserts when the switch is in current-limit or thermal-shutdown, giving the system controller a direct signal to log or respond to the fault. The non-inverting On/Off input (active-high enable) with a 1:1 input-to-output ratio means the switch follows the logic level directly — no inversion or timing delay to account for in the firmware.
Package and temperature range
The switch does not require a separate Vcc supply — the load voltage powers the internal gate drive, simplifying the BOM by one rail.
Sourcing and compliance
Fully ROHS3 compliant, with no exemptions that would restrict its use in EU-market or global designs.
