Battery protection for automotive power rails
The MAX16914AUB+ is a dedicated battery protection IC from Analog Devices, designed to guard downstream electronics against supply faults common in automotive and industrial 12V/24V systems. Its primary function is monitoring the input rail and disconnecting the load when over-voltage or reverse battery conditions are detected. Over-voltage protection clamps or disconnects the output when the input exceeds a safe threshold, while reverse battery protection prevents damage when the battery is connected with reversed polarity — a real risk during jump-starts or service. These two fault protections are integrated into a single 10-pin MSOP package.
An engine-bay ECU or body controller that sees 105°C on a summer day still has margin before the IC hits its upper limit. The wide temperature range also suits industrial equipment exposed to outdoor or high-heat environments — motor drives, solar combiner boxes, or heavy machinery panels where the internal ambient can exceed 85°C.
Supplied in a 10-TFSOP / 10-MSOP package (0.118" body width, 3.00 mm), the MAX16914AUB+ uses the standard uMAX/uSOP footprint. The surface-mount package is suited for reflow assembly on standard FR-4 boards with 0.5 mm pitch. Delivered in tube packaging — typical for low-volume production or prototype runs. For high-volume reels, check the alternate ordering suffix.
