What this charge pump does — and what it doesn't
The MAX1683EUK+T is a switched-capacitor voltage doubler from Analog Devices. It takes a 2 V to 5.5 V input and delivers a fixed output of 2x the input voltage — no regulation loop, no adjust pin, just a straight ratiometric doubling at up to 45 mA. The 35 kHz switching frequency keeps external capacitor sizes modest, and the single SOT-23-5 package fits tight layouts.
Where it fits on the board
Surface-mount in a SOT-23-5 case. That five-pin footprint is common and easy to hand-solder if you're prototyping or doing a field repair — orientation is obvious from the pin-1 mark. No external inductor needed; just two flying capacitors and an output cap. The positive output configuration means it's a straight boost for a positive rail.
Temperature range and environment
Rated for -40°C to 85°C ambient, which covers industrial control, outdoor telecom, and battery-powered portable gear. Not an automotive-grade part — no AEC-Q100 in the record — so it belongs in the cabin or the enclosure, not under the hood.
Sourcing and lifecycle
Listed as Active with ROHS3 compliance. Sourced through independent distribution — confirmed availability and current pricing at quote time against an RFQ.
