40V input, two 150mA channels — automotive LED driver with flexible topology
The Maxim Integrated MAX16838AUP/V+ is a DC-DC regulator LED driver qualified to AEC-Q100 for automotive applications. It integrates two independent output channels, each rated for 150 mA, with a maximum supply voltage of 40 V — enough headroom to survive load-dump transients on a 12 V or 24 V vehicle bus. The internal switching FET supports SEPIC, buck, or boost topology, so the same part handles LED strings that sit above, below, or across the input rail. PWM dimming is built in, and the switching frequency is programmable from 200 kHz to 2 MHz, letting you trade inductor size against EMI filtering effort.
AEC-Q100 and 125°C junction — built for under-hood and cabin lighting
The AEC-Q100 qualification and operating junction temperature range of -40°C to 125°C place this driver squarely in automotive-grade territory — suitable for headlamp, daytime-running-light, or interior backlight modules where the ambient under the hood or behind the dash exceeds standard industrial limits. The 20-TSSOP exposed-pad package helps pull heat into the PCB copper; a via stitch under the pad is expected for continuous operation near the 150 mA per-channel ceiling.
Active lifecycle — no EOL risk for production builds
The MAX16838AUP/V+ carries an Active lifecycle status and is ROHS3 compliant.
Package and mounting — 20-TSSOP with exposed pad
Surface-mount in a 20-TSSOP (0.173", 4.40 mm width) with an exposed pad. The supplier device package is 20-TSSOP-EP. The exposed pad must be soldered to a thermal land on the PCB for rated current delivery; the datasheet layout recommendation should be followed for pad dimensions and via pattern.
