What this LED driver does and where it fits
The MAX16832CASA+ is a high-voltage, current-mode DC-DC regulator designed as a step-down (buck) LED driver, delivering up to 700 mA per channel to a single LED string. It accepts an input supply from 6.5 V to 65 V, covering automotive battery rails (12 V/24 V), industrial bus voltages, and lighting power supplies without an external pre-regulator. The internal switching MOSFET switches at 2 MHz, keeping the external inductor small enough for compact PCB layouts in space-constrained luminaire or automotive lighting modules.
Dimming and thermal performance for real-world LED loads
PWM dimming is supported directly on the dimming input, allowing the LED current to be pulse-width modulated at a frequency independent of the 2 MHz switching rate — the LED sees a clean on/off current waveform without colour shift. The operating temperature range spans -40°C to +125°C (TA), which covers under-hood automotive ambient and high-bay industrial lighting enclosures where junction temperatures climb above 85°C.
Lifecycle status and compliance for BOM planning
It is ROHS3 compliant, meeting the latest EU restriction-of-hazardous-substances directive for lead-free assembly.
