Product details

Buck controller for point-of-load regulation

The MAX15046BAEE+ is a current-mode PWM buck controller from Analog Devices, designed for step-down conversion from input rails up to 40 V. It drives an external N-channel MOSFET pair in a synchronous rectifier configuration, which improves efficiency at low output voltages compared to a freewheeling diode. The 87.5% maximum duty cycle sets the minimum dropout between input and output for a given switching period.

Control features and output configuration

The controller integrates current limit, enable, frequency control, and power-good output. The power-good flag asserts when the output is within regulation, simplifying sequencing with downstream loads or a system supervisor. Output configuration is positive, single-phase, with a transistor driver output that directly drives the gate of the external high-side N-channel MOSFET. The synchronous rectifier output drives the low-side MOSFET with complementary timing to prevent shoot-through. No clock synchronization input is provided, so the switching frequency free-runs at the programmed value. In multi-rail systems, beat frequencies between unsynchronized converters may require additional output filtering or careful layout to avoid audible noise.

Package and board-fit planning

Surface-mount assembly per standard reflow profiles for QSOP packages. The tube packaging (50 units per tube typical) is suitable for prototype builds and low-volume production; for higher volumes, confirm tape-and-reel availability with the supplier at quote time.

Lifecycle and compliance status

The part is RoHS3 compliant, meeting the exemption-free material restriction requirements for EU and UK markets.
