Active automotive LDO for 12V battery systems
The MAX15006AATT/V+T is an active-production automotive LDO from Analog Devices, AEC-Q100 qualified, delivering a fixed 3.3V output at up to 50mA from a 40V maximum input. The 40V input ceiling covers 12V battery rails with load-dump transients — no external clamp needed for the 40V abs-max region. The 1V max dropout at full load means the output stays regulated when the battery cranks down to 4.3V.
66dB PSRR at 100Hz — alternator ripple rejection
The 66dB PSRR at 100Hz directly addresses the dominant noise frequency from an alternator — the rectified ripple at 300Hz to 1kHz from a 6-pulse alternator is attenuated by roughly 60dB, keeping the 3.3V rail clean for audio codecs, CAN transceivers, or analog sensor front-ends that would otherwise couple ripple into the signal chain.
Package and thermal layout — 6-TDFN exposed pad
The 6-WDFN exposed-pad package (3x3mm, supplier device package 6-TDFN) routes the primary heat path through the centre pad. The PCB layout must connect this pad to a copper plane with multiple vias to the ground layer — without that thermal relief, the junction temperature rises above the 125°C limit when dissipating 50mA at 40V input (1.85W). Built-in over-temperature and short-circuit protection means the regulator survives a hard output short to ground indefinitely — the thermal loop cycles the output until the fault clears, no external crowbar needed.
