Automotive-rated boost/flyback/SEPIC controller with wide input range
The Maxim Integrated MAX15005CAUE/V+ is an automotive-grade (AEC-Q100) current-mode PWM controller designed for boost, flyback, and SEPIC topologies. It operates from a 4.5V to 40V supply, making it suitable for 12V and 24V automotive battery systems as well as industrial power rails. The single output drives an external transistor, and the internal synchronous rectifier improves efficiency in step-up configurations. Switching frequency is programmable from 15kHz to 1MHz, allowing the designer to balance inductor size against switching losses and EMI.
What the key ratings mean for your power supply design
The 4.5V to 40V supply range (Vcc/Vdd) covers cold-crank and load-dump transients common in automotive environments — no external pre-regulator needed for most 12V systems. The 80% maximum duty cycle limits the maximum step-up ratio; for a 12V input to a 48V output, the duty cycle required is 75%, which is within the 80% ceiling. The 15kHz to 1MHz switching frequency range lets you synchronize with an external clock (clock sync is supported) to place switching harmonics outside sensitive bands, or to choose a frequency that minimizes magnetics size. The exposed pad on the 16-TSSOP package (16-TSSOP-EP) must be soldered to a PCB copper plane for thermal dissipation; without it, the junction temperature will exceed the -40°C to 125°C rating at high load.
Active production with AEC-Q100 qualification
The AEC-Q100 qualification means it has passed the stress tests required for automotive-grade components — including high-temperature operating life, ESD, and latch-up — so it is suitable for under-hood and cabin-domain applications without additional screening.
Sourcing and availability
The surface-mount 16-TSSOP-EP package ships in tube form. For production volumes or date-code requirements, include those in your RFQ.
