What this isolator does on your board
The MAX14936DAWE+T is a 4-channel digital isolator using capacitive coupling across a 5000Vrms barrier. It is a general-purpose part — no integrated DC-DC converter — so you supply the isolated power on the secondary side yourself. Data rate is 1Mbps. The 2/2 channel split suits bidirectional isolation for half-duplex interfaces.
Temperature range and environment
Rated from -40°C to 125°C, this isolator fits industrial motor drives, outdoor telecom gear, and under-hood automotive modules where the ambient can hit triple digits. The 16-SOIC wide-body package (7.50 mm width) gives you the creepage distance to maintain the 5000Vrms rating across the board — keep the PCB slot or gap under the part clean of solder flux and debris.
Timing and signal integrity
Propagation delay is 54.1 ns typical on the low-to-high edge and 55.3 ns on the high-to-low — tight enough for most 1Mbps links. Pulse-width distortion maxes at 4.5 ns, so duty cycle stays clean. Common-mode transient immunity is rated at 25 kV/µs minimum, which matters when you're isolating a motor-drive PWM line or a relay coil driver that slings noise back across the barrier. Rise and fall times are 2 ns typical; keep the trace short to avoid ringing.
