What the 1-to-16 cell range means for your BMS
The MAX14921ECS+ monitors 1 to 16 series cells in a single IC — that covers everything from a 4S li-ion pack up to a 48 V nominal battery string without stacking multiple monitors. The SPI interface reads back individual cell voltages, so the host MCU sees the stack profile, not just the pack terminal voltage.
Protection and temperature range
On-chip fault protection catches over-temperature and over/under voltage conditions — these are the hard limits that keep the battery from venting or the load from browning out. Multi-chemistry support means the same monitor handles Li-ion, LiFePO4, lead-acid, or NiMH — the cell-voltage thresholds are set by the host firmware over SPI, not by a fixed divider. That flexibility saves a BOM spin when the pack chemistry changes.
