Eight-channel high-side driver for distributed industrial loads
The MAX14900EAGM+CKT from Analog Devices is an 8-output high-side power switch rated for 850 mA continuous per channel. The SPI and parallel control interface means it integrates into both serial-bus and legacy parallel-gpio architectures without a level translator.
Fault diagnostics and protection set
Built-in fault protection covers current limiting (fixed), open-load detection, over-temperature shutdown, over-voltage clamping, and under-voltage lockout on the logic supply. The Status Flag output reports these fault conditions back to the host controller — useful for a PLC output module or a distributed I/O node where a blown fuse or a shorted actuator needs to be identified without manual probing. The 1:1 input-to-output ratio means each channel is independently controlled, so a single fault on one load does not take down the others. Open-load detection works when the output is off — it checks for a missing load or a broken wire by pulling a small current and monitoring the voltage.
The 48-VFQFN with exposed pad (7x7 mm) requires a thermal via array to the ground plane — the datasheet's recommended footprint keeps the junction temperature below the 150°C absolute maximum at full load.
