RS-485/RS-422 link in an 8-pin SOIC
The MAX1487CSA+T: This is a half-duplex transceiver supporting RS-485 and RS-422 protocols at data rates up to 2.5 Mbps — fast enough for industrial fieldbus links (Modbus RTU, Profibus DP) over cable runs up to 1200 metres. The 70 mV receiver hysteresis provides built-in noise immunity on long bus lines, reducing the need for external filtering or bias resistors in electrically noisy environments. With one driver and one receiver on-chip, it handles point-to-point or multi-drop configurations up to 32 nodes on a single twisted-pair bus.
