12 Mbps full-duplex RS-485/RS-422 transceiver
The MAX1484CUB+ is a single-channel RS-485/RS-422 transceiver that handles full-duplex communication at data rates up to 12 Mbps — fast enough for Profibus DP, Modbus RTU at high baud, or any industrial fieldbus link that needs the throughput without a separate clock line. One driver and one receiver on-chip (1/1 configuration) means this part serves a single differential pair; for multi-drop or multi-point RS-485 networks you need one transceiver per node, and the full-duplex wiring uses two twisted pairs (TX+/TX- and RX+/RX-). Receiver hysteresis is specified at 70 mV — this is the dead-band that prevents the output from chattering when the differential input sits near the threshold. In a noisy industrial environment with long cable runs, that 70 mV buys you noise immunity without adding external filtering. The 70 mV hysteresis and the 12 Mbps edge rate together set the cable-length limit: at 12 Mbps the bit time is 83 ns, and the propagation delay plus cable skew must stay well under that for the receiver to sample cleanly.
10-uMAX/uSOP footprint and temperature grade
That covers indoor control cabinets, telecom shelters, and test equipment, but not extended industrial or automotive ambient. If the design sees -20 °C or 85 °C, this part is outside its rated envelope. Mounting is surface-mount only — no through-hole variant in this package family. The 10-uMAX/uSOP has a typical 0.65 mm lead pitch; a standard FR-4 PCB with a soldermask-defined pad and a fine-tip iron or reflow profile handles it without special tooling.
Active production and compliance status
ROHS3 compliant per the manufacturer's declaration — no exemptions for lead in solder or other restricted substances. The part ships in tube packaging, which is typical for MSOP-family devices in prototype or low-volume production.
