Quad UART with deep FIFOs for multi-channel serial
The MAX14830ETM+T is a quad universal asynchronous receiver-transmitter (UART) from Analog Devices, packing four independent serial channels into a 48-TQFN exposed-pad package. Each channel carries a 128-byte FIFO — deep enough to buffer a full packet at common baud rates without the host CPU servicing every byte, which reduces interrupt overhead on the system bus.
Protocol flexibility and flow control
The UART engine handles both RS232 and RS485 protocols, so the same part can serve a legacy DB9 port and a differential multi-drop bus on different channels. Auto flow control (RTS/CTS) is built in, and an IrDA encoder/decoder is on-die — the part can talk to an optical transceiver without an external codec chip. An internal oscillator eliminates the need for an external crystal or resonator on the board, saving two components and the associated PCB real estate.
Supply range and package fit
Surface-mount assembly with a standard reflow profile works for the 48-TQFN — no special handling beyond the usual moisture sensitivity level (MSL) for a QFN.
The part is ROHS3 compliant, meeting the latest EU restriction on hazardous substances for lead-free assembly.
