RS-422/RS-485 transceiver in a 28-pin DIP
The Maxim Integrated MAX1480EAEPI+ is a half-duplex transceiver supporting both RS-422 and RS-485 protocols, with a single driver and single receiver integrated into a 28-pin PDIP package. It operates from a 4.5 V to 5.5 V supply and is rated for the commercial temperature range of 0°C to 70°C, making it suitable for indoor industrial control, building automation, and instrumentation backplanes where through-hole assembly is preferred.
2.5 Mbps data rate and 70 mV receiver hysteresis
The 2.5 Mbps data rate covers most fieldbus and serial-interface applications in factory-floor and HVAC networks. The 70 mV receiver hysteresis provides noise immunity on long cable runs, reducing the risk of false triggering from reflections or coupled interference. For a half-duplex bus, the single driver/receiver pair means the transceiver must be direction-controlled by the host UART's DE/RE signals.
