Input configuration: differential or single-ended
The MAX1361EUB+T accepts either two differential inputs (for noise rejection on long sensor leads) or four single-ended inputs (for monitoring multiple ground-referenced signals). The multiplexer selects the channel before the sample-and-hold. If your application mixes signal types, the I²C address is selectable via a pin, letting you put two of these on the same bus without conflict.
Reference options simplify the BOM
Both an internal bandgap reference and an external reference input are available. Use the internal reference for ratiometric measurements or when absolute accuracy of ±1 LSB is acceptable. Bring in an external precision reference when you need a tighter voltage tolerance or a specific full-scale range that matches your sensor output. That flexibility can save a reference IC on the BOM when the internal reference is good enough.
