What the 250 kbps data rate and full-duplex mean for the bus
The MAX13080ECSD+ is a single-channel RS-485/RS-422 transceiver with a 250 kbps data rate — this is the standard signalling speed for industrial fieldbus links like Modbus RTU, where the bus timing budget is dominated by cable length and stub reflections rather than the transceiver itself. Full-duplex operation means the driver and receiver are active simultaneously, so the part needs two twisted pairs on the bus — one for transmit, one for receive — unlike a half-duplex part that shares a single pair and toggles direction. The 100 mV receiver hysteresis filters out noise on long cable runs; without it a floating or weakly-driven bus can oscillate at the receiver output, corrupting the data stream.
Package and board-fit
Supplied in tube format; the part is also available in tape-and-reel under a different order code if the BOM calls for automated assembly.
RoHS3 compliant (2011/65/EU + 2015/863), so it passes the material restriction check for EU-market equipment without an exemption review.
