What the 70 mV receiver hysteresis buys you on a noisy bus
The 70 mV of receiver hysteresis is the key noise-immunity spec on this part. On a long CAN stub or a shared backplane with switching power supplies nearby, common-mode noise couples into the differential pair. That hysteresis band prevents the receiver from toggling on sub-70 mV noise spikes — without it, the controller sees false start-of-frame edges and retransmits, eating into the bus utilization. For a 1 Mbps bus running a 500 kbps effective payload, losing 10% to retransmissions is a real throughput hit.
