The MAX1287ETA+T is a 12-bit successive-approximation register (SAR) ADC from Analog Devices, sampling at 150k samples per second — fast enough to digitise a 75 kHz bandwidth signal at the Nyquist limit without aliasing concerns in a typical sensor front-end. It accepts two single-ended inputs through a built-in sample-and-hold, with the conversion ratio set at 1:1 S/H:ADC — no external track-and-hold needed for DC or low-frequency multiplexed signals.
Supply range and digital interface
The SPI data interface connects directly to a microcontroller or FPGA without a glue-logic level shifter, provided the host's I/O voltage matches the supply range. The external reference input lets the designer set the full-scale range independent of the supply — useful when the sensor output spans a fraction of the rail.
Package and board-fit — 8-TDFN with exposed pad
Housed in an 8-WDFN with exposed pad (3x3 mm, 8-TDFN), the part is surface-mount and reworkable with hot air — the exposed pad pulls heat away from the die and gives a solid thermal path to the PCB ground plane. The small footprint (3x3 mm) saves board area in space-constrained designs like handheld instruments or sensor modules, but the pad layout demands a solder-paste stencil with the correct aperture to avoid bridging on the narrow leads.
