12-bit SAR ADC with on-chip temperature sensor
The MAX1231BCEG+ is a 12-bit successive-approximation register (SAR) ADC from Analog Devices, sampling at 300k samples per second. The SAR architecture gives you a deterministic conversion time with no pipeline delay — the output for a given input appears on the next SPI frame, not several clocks later. It accepts either 8 differential or 16 single-ended inputs via an internal mux, configurable through the SPI interface. The on-chip temperature sensor lets the ADC report its own die temperature — useful for thermal compensation in a system that already polls the ADC channel sequence.
Supply and signal chain integration
The external or internal reference option lets you trade accuracy for BOM count: use the internal reference for a standalone channel, or drive an external precision reference when the system already has one. The 24-QSOP package (3.90 mm wide SSOP footprint) is a compact surface-mount option for dense mixed-signal boards. The 0.154-inch body width fits standard SSOP land patterns; the tube shipment means the parts arrive aligned for pick-and-place without tape-and-reel handling.
Not specified for the -40°C industrial tail; if the end system sees freezing ambient, a wider-temp variant from the same family is the safer call.
